  1. How times change!
India had actually paid the british to remove the fuel probes from the first batch of Jaguars.
    Here's to changing times.

  2. I guess the single seat Jaguar has a retracted fuel probe whereas the twin seater never had. So dat Jag isnt widout a probe. About the new probe. Good going but looks very crude esp all that welding and an extra fairing on the chin. HAL cud have done a better job and put a Mirage like probe. But still, somethings better than nothing. And we need more of them for our ground strike fleet. Thats the best platform one can get. The advantage of a twin seat. Amazing handling and flying controls. Twin engines. Long range. Good payload capacity. and now unlimited range.

  3. Are the 2 seaters trainer versions ? Are their combat characteristics downgraded in comparison to the single seater ones like lesser on board fuel ? In that respect adding IFR is definitely going to boost its capability as a bomb truck.

  4. I wish they could somehow make the probe retract into the recessed air frame. The single seaters have that where it retracts sideways into the airframe. Won't a config like this induce extra drag on the airframe ? Even the latest Mirage-2000 THs have similar IFR probes. I think this maybe a test bed for the Tejas IFR which incidentally is also non retractable as per artists renditions and Aero India models. Any thoughts/comments on that Shukla ?

  5. New Jaguar without IFR ? I thought by now IFR was a part of the standard Darin-II fitment. That's a Darin-II Jaguar in the hangar but no IFR :-(

  6. People have called Tejas- Limited Combat Aircraft. I would love to see a comparative trial between Mig-21 Bison (the aircraft Tejas is meant to replace and MMR fitted, BVR equipped IN20 powered Tejas. A one on one duel in close combat, BVR engagement, ECM and ECCM engagement and bombing runs against similar targets will make it clear whether Tejas is really limited combat or not. ADA should insist it should the air force keep delaying its induction on flimsy grounds. Once IOC is achieved this should be done asap to realistically assess LCA's capability as Point defence and ground attack aircraft and not as an MMRCA replacement candidate.

  7. Shukla Ji,
Can you enumerate on what improvements were made incrementally from the TDs to the PVs to the LSPs in terms of equipment as well as capability in the Tejas program and what further improvements/ capabilities are being planned as part of IOC/FOC and future upgrades. Speaking of IFR when is it supposed to be incorporated in the LCA. Also what measures have been taken or are being planned wrt to RCS area reduction or stealth

  8. The probe should be retractable one! otherwise the pilot will be seeing the probe only. it could be a nagging obstruction to the pilots field of vies. Anyhow HAL would have done with concurrence of IAF ! New development!Great!

  9. If that's the case the probe arm will go inside the radome area ? Do you think there will be enough space to hold both the radar and the probe arm, also notice that the length of the probe arm seems to be longer than the radome od, so how will it fit inside and neither is the arm telescopic, so I still feel the arm is non retractable. I have seen Mirage-2000-TH of IAF flying with non retractable IFR probes so this should not be an exception.

  10. check this youtube link below and you'll see what I mean by a fixed arm IFR probe. Although the video says IAF I doubt, seems more like French Air force Mirage-2000C/Ds, but the latest Mirage-2000 TH we got have similar IFR probes.

  11. I dream the Tejas to do maneuvers like that Sexy Vajra in that video. Hope it happens soon.

  12. I still think shutting down the Jaguar line to make way for Hawks is not a wise decision. Jaguars are still a damn good platform though now with limited growth potential especially after Darin-II upgrade. But it can still give a bloody nose anytime deep in our neighborhood and bring back its crew safely. It reminds me of shutting down the Mig-21 Bis line in anticipation of the LCA and our squadron strengths have only fallen since then.
